This post I'd like to focus on one-offs big payment. And Card up is my best friend for things we typically can't pay with credit cards. If this post has been helpful, please use my referral code to get started. <MIOASHANL707> for 1.79% fee instead of the usual 2.6%.

If a first class / suites one way from SIN-> Beijing is about 112,500 miles.

This means that typically on a lousy card 1.4mpd, you need to spend about $80,357 in order to accumulate these miles. Which is quite tough to accumulate unless you optimise every single spending.

My last trip in Dec 2025, was Zurich-> SIN 140,000 miles for first class. Super worth it for a 12 hours flight.

Even if there's no promo code, you're paying 2.6% transaction fees for card up.

$80,357 x 2.6% = $2089.

Essentially this one way first class ticket will only cost you $2089. If this "buying" of miles is worth it for you. Read further.

If you daily expenses aren't very high, we can focus the game on the biggest spending. Sometimes it is a yearly payment. Set it up and get it out of the way.

Yearly there are a few one-off spendings that is huge, and normally hard to use credit card to spend.

  • Income tax

  • Insurance premiums

If you own a property

  • Monthly mortgages

  • Property Tax

  • MCST (quarterly)

All these categories i like to use card up.

Main card i use to throw all my miles into is

  • UOB PRVI Miles Card (1.4 miles per dollar)

You could choose to do your income Taxes by monthly payment.

These are all the available categories of big spendings you could explore.

These are the other categories if you like. 2.35%

Tax season the transaction fees is 1.70%.

The best website I use to figure out miles game is still themilelion.

You can figure out which cards to get for your other categories.

For the purpose of this article, I want to encourage you to look at those categories of spendings which you could optimise.

:)

Enjoy~
